Top Five Songwriting Trends In Today's Country Music

Today we’re taking a look at the top five trends in songwriting for today’s Country market.  We’re looking at the Top 3 songs on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart: ‘Better Together’ by Luke Combs, ‘I Hope’ by Gabby Barrett, and ‘Good Time’ by Niko Moon.

Trend number five: work with co writers.  All three of these hits have at least three writers.

Trend number four: get to the first chorus quickly. The longest time to get to the first chorus in this batch of hits is ‘I Hope’ at thirty eight seconds.

Trend number three: keep the length at around three and a half minutes.  The shortest, ‘I Hope’ is three thirty one, and the longest, ‘Better Together’ is 3:40.

Trend number two: song structure.  All three have only two verses, at least three choruses and a short bridge.

Trend number one: use the title in the first line of the chorus.  All three songs use the title in the first line of the chorus, and both ‘I Hope’ and ‘Good Time’ use the title in the very first line of the song. This is a recent major change from using the title in the last line of the chorus.
